The University Honors program
is a subset of the Honors College.

UHP: Benefits

The University Honors Program not only offers students a way to challenge and improve themselves and their community, it also gives students the tools to do so. The University Honors Program benefits students in many ways. Students must be in "good standing" to expect Honors Housing or Priority Registration.

Honors Housing

All honors students have the opportunity to live in Witherspoon Hall's Honors in Residence facility. Witherspoon Hall is one of the most desirable residence halls on campus. Click here for more information about living on campus.

Priority Registration

In order to have better control over time management, priority registration allows our students to register for classes before the rest of campus. This insures students are able to schedule what they need when they want in order to fulfill their obligation to community service, campus life, and their own academics.

Advising

Students have university designated advisors depending on chosen major or field of interest. In addition to this, UHP students are encouraged to visit the Honors office where they can receive further assistance in planning their Honors requirements and education goals.

Community Service

One of the University Honors Program's founding premises is the performance of community service. Set opportunities include the Food Run to distribute leftover food to homeless people uptown and the Lifespan trip to bring Halloween to disabled children. Other activities have included Christmas assistance to foster homes, clothing and food drives, and even on-campus volunteer work such as planting trees to offset construction clearing. There is also a community service lab class which offers academic credit.

Honors College

By being a member of the University Honors Program, students are also members of the Honors College. This group is made up of UHP members, Business Honors members, Teaching Fellows, and all the departmental honors programs.

Enrichment Opportunities

Enrichment Seminars introduce honors students to local cultural activities. Visiting lecturers provide background information on upcoming events including concerts, plays, museum attractions, and art exhibits.

Freshman Mentoring Program

As Freshman, honors students can participate in a unique mentoring experience to foster their adjustment to university life.

Special Events

The University Honors Program sponsors special trips, seminars and coffee talks designed to meet the special needs of honors students.

Study Abroad

The Honors Program, in cooperation with the Office of Education Abroad, offers comprehensive study abroad opportunities, emphasizing diversity, choice, and flexibility. Although study abroad is not required, it is strongly encouraged. Click here to learn more about studying abroad.
