Charles LowmanGraduated: 2003 Major: Communications Studies Minor: French Currently: Residence Life Coordinator and Adjunct Faculty at the University of South Carolina
After graduation from UNC Charlotte, I went on to obtain a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. I decided to pursue a career in Residence Life and Student Affairs because of the wonderful experiences I had as an undergraduate student in the University Honors Program and as a Resident Advisor in Laurel Hall. I wanted to be a mentor for undergraduate students the way so many wonderful faculty and staff had been for me. Currently I serve as a Residence Life Coordinator at the University of South Carolina. I supervise a staff of RA’s and graduate students, handle student discipline cases, plan educational and social programs, and advise a student organization. Additionally, I teach two courses – University 101 (similar to UNC Charlotte’s Freshman Seminar) and a leadership course through the College of Education. I enjoy my work immensely! However, when I’m not working, I enjoy lifting weights, traveling, chatting on Facebook, and trying out new restaurants. I have so many great memories from the University Honors Program, but I think the challenging classes and the late night conversations with friends rank among the best. Whether I was exploring the birth of the Universe with Dr. Mike Corwin, discussing ethics with Dr. Rosie Tong, or taking a random trip to Waffle House with my roommates, I was constantly learning something new! The Honors Program exposed me to diversity, taught me to think independently, and set me up for success! For that, I am grateful. For all of the current and prospective Honors students out there, I am confident that you will one day look back on joining the University Honors program as one of the single best decisions of your college career. Enjoy every minute of it! |
