As I continue teaching at UNC Charlotte and directing the University Honors Program, I become increasingly convinced that making connections among academic theories, our community, and our selves become the vital threads to a meaningful undergraduate experience. Within the larger university, there are many smaller communities at UNC Charlotte where students can craft solutions to problems, listen, speak, and (very important) play and celebrate. Among these smaller programs is the University Honors Program which engages students who have a common interest in academic inquiry, community service, and personal commitment to improving the human condition both locally and globally.
Through relatively small discussion and writing based classes, students elect a variety of interdisciplinary classes. The Honors Student Association organizes community service projects and social events.
